Contemplative Practices

Many lawyers have regular meditation practices. Many firms support their employees in pursuing contemplative practices in their legal work.  Several lawyers have left their law practices to teach meditation to their colleagues and workshops in contemplative practices are becoming more commonplace.

Attention is paramount in the life of the law - attention to details; to legal, ethical and moral principles, and to the hearts and minds of clients, colleagues, judges and juries. The Law Program of the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society explores the relationship of contemplative practice - which fosters and encourages attention to the present moment - to the life of the law.  (From the Contemplative Mind web site.)

The Center for Contemplative Mind in Society works to integrate contemplative awareness into contemporary life in order to help create a more just, compassionate and reflective society.  The Center's Law Program explores ways of helping lawyers, judges, law professors and students reconnect with their deepest values and intentions, through meditation, yoga, and other contemplative and spiritual practices.  We run retreats and events which provide a framework for considering ways in which contemplative awareness can enhance and enrich our professional and personal lives, and bring them more into balance.  For more information, contact the Law Program Director, Heidi Norton, at heidi@contemplativemind.org, or check out our website at www.contemplativemind.org/programs/law.
